Some geniuses in Trenton got the idea that the old shore mansions would be perfect homes for homeless. A.P. and Long Branch were particularly hard hit. Buildings were allowed to decay. Asbury Park movie theater (Where I saw Peter, Paul and Mary and Joan Baez) was at one end of the boardwalk. It was shuttered for years. The Carousel was at the other end. It recently reopened.

Long Branch was a summer vacation spot for U.S. presidents and other wealthy people.

2000, began the rebirth of both shore towns. Both towns are back to being summer vacation spots.
