"Le Monde reported yesterday (August 23) that Ribeiros representatives confirmed the news to Agence France-Presse. No cause of death has been revealed, only that she passed away in a retirement home in the French city of Martigues.
Ribeiro leaves behind an illustrious career that involves leading progressive rock group Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, active from 1968 to 1981. The band gained a cult following for their avant-garde theatrics and political focus that breathed transgressive life into their psychedelic folk-inspired sound.
Ribeiro was born in Lyon, France in 1941 to Portuguese parents. Prior to her music career, Ribeiro tried her hand at acting with appearances in Jean-Luc Godards 1963 film Les Carabiniers and 1964 Italian western film Buffalo Bill, Hero of the Far West."

Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes were reminiscent of Hawkwind (musically and politically) and are an interesting listen if you've not heard of them and are into that sort of music (as I am).
