(69,879 posts)That will offend some folks, but country is an extension of folk music, which by definition is music for "folks" who don't have tremendous skills and musical training.
While a lot of lilt and frosting has been put on the country cake over the decades, it is still, at root, folk music.

(831 posts)In other words...singing is not a trained art. It comes naturally from your soul. If you are a hillbilly living in the mountains then it is easy. there is no bad singing. It is a taste issue. Well trained opera singer from conservatories are great singers so are all styles of singers. Music is an art form not a sport, what ever make you feel good, that how you sing. Bob Dylan's voice is just is legitimate as Catherine Hayes.
You got find the music you enjoy the most and try to master it.
