RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan 10-3-1954/8-27-1990 🎸

Stevie Ray Vaughan’s August 27, 1990 death is an event that calls to mind that war of feelings in the face of such a tremendous and sudden loss. Just 35 years old, Stevie overcame poverty to beating a near fatal addiction to drugs and alcohol, riding into the most stable and successful part of his life on the wings of a glowing career. And suddenly, just like that, he was gone.

from going. I was shocked when I heard the news the next morning and music died for me for years until joe Bonamassa came along. I did see SRV twice before. I treasure the 2 unused tickets to his last show and the the memories of perhaps one of the all time greats.

We were there. That was my third time seeing Eric and first time seeing SRV.

We got home around 2:30 in the morning woke up around 8 and the news was talking about him dying.

...I had helped a friend-girl move from Pittsburgh back home to Boston and she wanted me to stay with her for a few days before I headed back to Pennsylvania, where I was living at the time. We were on our way downtown to see "Goodfellas" and passed a newspaper stand where I caught sight of a headline about SRV's plane crash. Stunningly sad news, especially considering the fact that I had worked backstage security at several of Stevie's concerts and knew him to be not only a stellar musician but a genuinely nice guy as well.

Rest in peace, Stevie; thanks for the music and the memories...

My wife, a protege of mine, his girlfriend, and i went to Alpine Valley to see Clapton and SRV.

Of course, with us only about 3 hours from home, the news didn't hit until a couple hours after we got home.

IIRC, it was a Sunday night concert so we found out Monday morning that he had died in the chopper crash.
