Guitar lessons on line apps etc (cross posting in several forums)
So please excuse me.
Ive decided Im going to get something out of this situation and one of those was picking up the guitar again.
Any suggestions for FREE on line tutorials or apps?
Fender had a free thing going but apparently I was too late. Their free tutorial requires setting up payments for when it runs out.
I am looking for strumming and chords I guess. Picking at it (from my past attempts to learn) just doesnt seem in the cards for me. Ive tended to learn a few Christmas songs every year but then I put it back down. Im committed to at least 20 minutes a day because I definitely have the time.

Excellent lessons! Marty Music is also helpful
Pick a tune you'd like to learn.
Use it as a search term, add "lesson", "cover", or "chords" to the search.
Or enter "how to play (name of song)"
for instance-
You'll likely turn up several examples of videos on youtube, or chord charts and diagrams.
Some will be better than others, poke around until you find one you like.
I sometimes like just pulling up chord charts and exploring unfamiliar chords, or finding a new way of playing older ones.

(186,647 posts)I can do tabs. I dont have much of a musical ear but tabs make sense to me. I just have to work on dexterity.

Learning chords is the best place to start so you're on the right track.
I also recommend the company Sweetwater if you want to buy a new guitar of any kind. Great sales reps and no questions asked return policy. You can even call a phone rep. and they'll guide you in the right direction and no try to upset/oversell you stuff beyond your needs. Free shipping on just about everything.
Got more stuff if your looking for some more suggestions.
All the suggestions already in this thread are great places to start, I also recommend Justin Guitar.

(186,647 posts)I have a Squire by Fender. My wife bought it for me oh 10 years ago at a single shop guitar place about 10 years ago.
A friend of ours used to manage a Guitar Center. He said two things are recession proof - alcohol and music equipment stores. Well see if that holds true.

(1,537 posts)I'm a restaurant veteran with lots of friends in alcohol sales. Alcohol sells especially well during recessions. I was about to buy a Fender Strat right about now but save the cash until I go back to work (almost three weeks laid off). Got a big birthday coming up so guitar first and then another amp for my birthday. Squier makes great stuff nowadays and Epiphone is on fire if you like the classic style guitars like me.
Peace

You NEED a tuner. Can't play good if you don't play right note.
Metronome good but not as required, you can use an app
