Related: About this forumStarry Night (after moonset June 1 near Roanoke, VA)
I visited my mother at her home near Roanoke, VA, for a few days and took some night-sky photos from her front yard. The trees are illuminated by a sodium-vapor street light.

We have clouds for the next few nights. Otherwise, I could see the milky way from my front yard when it's overhead.

Valley ranks up there for its natural beauty. I know, Roanoke on the foothills, but when you get there it keeps getting better!

I lived north of there in Loudon County for a few years during the early '70s.

photographing fireflies as hard as photographing stars.
Zillions of fireflies there. Don't know why. But enough that they have everyone outside to watch.
