Firefly Wonderland

I camped by the Tionesta Creek in Northwest Pennsylvania June 29 and 30 to photograph fireflies. The area is known as a firefly wonderland for the displays of several species of the bioluminescent beetles. I also took daytime photos along the creek and on nearby trails. I'll post some of those later.

One of my all time favorite life experiences involves fireflies. It would be about 50 years ago, summer of 72 or 73. I was dating a guy who had a BMW 500 motorcycle. One night, we came up a little hill and then down into a valley. The valley was filled with what must have been hundreds, if not thousands, of lightning bugs.

It was magnificent.
