A North American Train Odyssey: (Part 1 of 4) Toronto to Vancouver on VIA Rail's "Canadian" [Video]

From mountains, lakes & rivers ... to prairies, deserts & wildlife (including bears) - this trip has it all!

This video is first in a 4-part series documenting our journey across Canada & the U.S. by rail in the spring of 2023.

-Here in Part 1 we are departing Toronto & travelling west aboard VIA Rail's "Canadian" to Vancouver.

-In Part 2 we explore Vancouver Island by tourist train, rental car, & ferry.

-In Part 3 we journey south from Vancouver aboard Amtrak's "Cascades" to Seattle.

-And in Part 4 we travel east from Seattle aboard Amtrak's "Empire Builder" to Chicago & "Lakeshore Limited" to Buffalo.

I will have to watch it in segments, since 2 hours is a bit long for one sitting.

Looks wonderful so far.

Thank you!

My goal was to keep the videos in this series around the 2hr mark & less than my last major video from 2022 of 3hr55min.

Good thing about Youtube is it will remember where you left off.

Cheers, Pete

Another person I was teaching with, took Canadian rail to Mooseknee, at the lower beach of Hudson's Bay ... near or close to the Arctic Circle.

Both loved the trips.

some of those shots reminded me so much of one of my favorite movies "Narrow Margin" that I looked it up - but it looks as if you were on the other side of Canada?

Narrow Margin's climax atop the train was filmed between Howe Sound and Cheakamus Canyon near Squamish in British Columbia.

If it's the movie I'm thinking of (I haven't seen it but I've heard of a train movie shoot in Cheakamus Canyon) they used the same VIA Rail cars that are used on the 'Canadian' (the train in our video) - but the location of the movie shoot was on a different rail line.

The movie used the BC Rail route that goes along Howe sound, Squamish & Cheakamus Canyon - a more or less north-south route that terminates in Vancouver, .

Our train was on the east-west transcontinental CN route from Toronto to Vancouver. Thanks for checking out my vid! Cheers, Pete
