Related: About this forumShadows and tall trees
A selfie of shadow taken early Tuesday morning.
The title was inspired by U2s song "Shadows and Tall Trees" from the band's debut album Boy. The song is said to have been inspired by William Golding's dystopian novel Lord of the Flies. "Shadows and Tall Trees" is the title of the book's seventh chapter.
"It's a story about how fear of one another - or fear of 'the other' in a metaphysical sense - can shape our imagination and twist our thinking," Bono wrote in his memoir Surrender. "It's a story about the end of innocence that still shapes my thinking and writing today."

Back to the cold restless streets at night
I talk to myself about tomorrow night
Walls of white protest
The gravestone in name
Who is it now?
It's always the same
Who is it now?
Who calls me inside?
Are the leaves on the trees
Just living disguise?
I walk street rain tragicomedy
I'll walk home again
To the street melody
But I know, oh no
But I know, oh no
But I know
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Life through a window
Discolored pain
Misses Brown's washing is always the same
I walk street rain tragicomedy
I'll walk home again
To the street melody
But I know...
Do you feel in me
Anything redeeming
Any worthwhile feeling
Is love like a tightrope
Hanging from the ceiling
But I know...
Shadows and tall trees

I bought all of their albums soon after they were released, from Boy to Achtung Baby. I'm not familiar with the albums that followed, except for the singles that I hear from time to time.
