All is well with me in the PNW wilderness, I am happy to report. Lurking on DU as my power and bandwidth situations allow.

(27,845 posts)I have a semi-stupid question. I believe you are alone in your lookout tower. So when do you sleep?

(25,993 posts)Right now, I'm on a 10-hour duty day. As fire danger increases, and lightning comes, that will increase to dawn to dusk. But if fire crews are on a fire after dark, in my area of responsibility, I'll be up as long as they are on the fire. But I can only remember one time, a nasty fire in southern Arizona, where a crew (a hotshot crew, natch) stayed on a fire all night tending the fire line. I pretty much stayed up all night that night too.

My best regards to you for your part in protecting this incredible little patch of the Earth.
