A pleasant evening at Long's Park Amphitheater in my home town.
Dave Alvin began his career with brother Phil as co-founders of blues-rocking band The Blasters in 1979. Jimmie Dale Gilmore is a singer/songwriter and a founding member of The Flatlanders. They're now on tour with the Guilty Ones band.

Great night.

(9,927 posts)when i lived in austin, i worked with jimmie dale gilmore's wife, janet...she is one of the coolest people i've ever worked with. she would bring jimmie to company functions. he was quite shy.
do you get a lot of touring bands up that way to play that stage?

(9,927 posts)...i've seen him a couple times. his biggest hit, "city of new orleans", was written by steve goodman who was from my home town (chicago). i got to see goodman a couple times before he died back in 1984.
sonny landreth is awesome....i think he was touring with john hiatt on at least one of the times i saw hiatt (i've seen hiatt a bunch) and he's on some of hiatt's studio albums.
i think landreth is all over this whole album:

(5,138 posts)I dig Landreth's simple slide and steel guitar parts on Slow Turning.
Feels Like Rain is a favorite.
