My favorite area, especially in winter is the Dolly Sods. Very primitive and as close to the tundra of the arctic as we can get in the mid-Atlantic.

(5,141 posts)Dolly Sods is my favorite too! I've been there in every season except for winter. I camped at Red Creek Campground for a week during the fall bird banding at the observatory in 2017. Most of the other campers were members of the group that does the banding, Brooks Bird Club. Nice folks.
Canaan Valley is also beautiful.
