As rough as it looks, I really think you should sand it before you wax it. Hermit-The-Prog Nov 2023 #6

Right outside my window.

It's been cloudy so this is the first I've seen of it since last weekend.

That's a really "clean" image, very nice.

That must have been wonderful, seeing it right there.

I knew approximately where it would be, so I went outside to look--aaand it was behind our neighbor's giant Monterey Pine! I had to wait till it cleared the branches, and in the meantime, the clouds were gathering!

A race against time--and I succeeded!

I appreciate your observant comments very much.

Missed it entirely here.

Partly and Mostly cloudy here tomorrow, so have to await next week; Thanksgiving Day only Fully Sunny day in the forecast.

Can you briefly tell me how you achieve these photos? Is it some technique described in this article?

Thanks in advance, Peggy.

I do not have a telescope; rather, I have an Olympus camera body with one of their longer superbly built lenses. It's 100 to 400mm. Internal to the camera is an electronic feature (the 2X extender) that will increase the reach of the lens. For my moon photos, I always use that, along with having the lens all the way out to 400mm.

I also have the F-stop wide open; when the lens is out to 400mm, the camera can get to F-6.4. The camera also is mirrorless so I can see what I'll get before I take the photo. And there's a dial for exposure compensation that allows me to play with the exposure.

There's a lot of technical stuff going on inside the camera and lens that I don't understand, but I do know how to use the features I've mentioned above.

Thank you for asking! I'm up right now because I couldn't sleep for worrying about something that I cannot do anything about, and you've distracted me, which I sorely needed!

but still fascinating. I'll just keep on enjoying the celestial captures by you and others here. Thanks for the knowledge, Peggy.

Don't get poked by those points!

I've never learned to take night shots like that with my Pentax. Nicely done!
