(152,291 posts)I no longer have the energy, much less the inclination, to traipse around multiple stores, looking for the stuff I want/need!
It has been a lifesaver for me.

(18,830 posts)I've been using Amazon more and more, especially for things like supplements and some otc meds.
For example, I need to take iron regularly, due to a medical issue, but there's only one brand that doesn't upset my stomach, and it's not always easy to find in stores. Being able to order it on Amazon has been a sanity saver. Same thing with other supplements I take regularly and want to be consistent about the brand I use.
As time goes on, I've been using Amazon for more and more things that I use on a regular basis. It makes life so much easier!

(136,549 posts)3 is about my limit: Grocery, Dunkin, CVS!
I think I just don't need much stuff. (Grocery and CVS cover need for Kleenex, and I'm adamant about the brand.) (Actually went to Walgreen today; unusual, and kind of found what I wanted; then Dunkin and grocery.)

(152,291 posts)I still grocery shop in person, but the rest? I love Amazon. I know they're not ideal, but they suit my needs.

(9,720 posts)Ive gotten lazy in my old age, if I cant get it at Giant with my regular grocery run, I find it on Amazon. Sometimes I price-compare with Target and Walmart online. I still grocery shop in person and usually take my 5 year old granddaughter along, she loves it.

(152,291 posts)There wasn't any plastic wrap on the box they came in. It was a large cardboard box, which will be recycled.
If you meant the plastic wrap on each little container of kleenex, that's a different issue. They always come that way. I carry them in my purse, in my car, in my pants pocket, all the time.
There is no way that you could carry a kleenex box into any of those places.
Think. Again.
(18,545 posts)...packaging is an extreme pet-peeve of mine. It can be extremely wasteful of resources and in some cases, the packaging of certain items is actually more expensive to produce and use than the product that a consumer is trying to buy, adding exorbitantly to the retail price.
Packaging is infamous for being misleading to consumers as far as sizes and volumes of the product are concerned, and to top it all off, most packaging is not in any way recyclable or biodegradable.
Again, it's just that packaging itself bothers me almost as much as advertising does.
CaliforniaPeggy
(152,291 posts)And I hear you about packaging! So much plastic everywhere. And as you say, not recyclable or biodegradable.
It's awful for the environment, and for us.

But they will last us for many months, and I like to be well-stocked with things I use all the time.
And yes, Amazon is a great time-saver.
I hope your week goes beautifully too!

(16,713 posts)Then when it starts snowing and the wind is howling run and get dressed in your California bikini. You are sure to get a bad cold and maybe bronchitis. You will need plenty of tissue to nurse your new colds. Do this during every blinding snowstorm. Soon the extra large box of tissues will be all used up.
Glad I could help.

(152,291 posts)Let me help you:
First, the issue of climate change means things are warming up, not getting colder.
Second, I have ZERO PLANS to move to a much colder climate!
Third, we already buy the large boxes of kleenex and we use them too.
And last, I do not own, nor would I wear one even if I did own one! I have never had the shape for that!
Hope I just helped you.

(16,713 posts)Do you have a receipt. Do they have a liberal return policy ?
CaliforniaPeggy
(152,291 posts)I do have a sort of a receipt from Amazon, and they are very accommodating about returns.
But these will not be returned as we plan to use them!

Kleenex and toilet paper are THE big buys for me at Costco. But they don't carry the pocket pack type, and Amazon does.

(10,355 posts)Was expecting to buy a new one, but this thing called a pandemic came along. Job went away, had to survive on the money that was going to go for the car.
If not for Amazon and instacart, I'd be dead right now. That isn't a joke. There is no public transportation where I live. Good luck finding an Uber or Lyft driver. I'm grateful everyday that there are ways to get food and other items to my house.

I put a very high premium on saving time. I can do drugstore and groceries within walking distance (9 - 11 minutes), and hardware (about 30 minutes).
I am desperately short on exercise, and for months about the only exercise I can force myself to do is walk about an hour to a different food store that is an hour's walk away (I take a bus home when I'm loaded down with a backpack full and 3-4 heavy bags of groceries, but still have to walk about 2/3 miles from busstop to home loaded down with groceries). So that's where I've done my grocery shopping lately. It also supports local businesses, one of my both selfish and altruistic goals.
I'm due for a grocery trip tomorrow, I hate, but the exercise and food are both imperative.
I used to use ShipT (very similar to Instacart) for groceries when I was sick (for months) and still have a few months left on the annual membership fee (they also have monthly membership). I'm quite satisfied with their service, and would love to have several heavy bags of groceries show up on my porch, but one shopper left the receipt in a bag and it showed I paid an average 16% markup. Plus I was tipping 15% so that totals about 31% more, which is enough to bother me. I also saved very little time if any other than transport time, and the saved transport time is a non-factor because the walk is needed exercise.
(Edited to add: well, waiting for the bus and the bus trip (for the return trip), though short, consumes about 18 minutes, and I would avoid that wasted non-exercise non-productive time by using ShipT, End Edit)
I haven't tried groceries from Target via ShipT. Target owns ShipT and supposedly charges no markup to the on-the-shelf Target prices, so may check that out sometime.
Whether from Target or elsewhere, ShipT doesn't charge a delivery fee for orders over $35. They make their money from the annual $99 membership fee (more if done on a per-month basis), and from marking up non-Target grocery prices.
Given transit limitations, and I can only walk so far, Amazon shopping fills the gap for a lot of non-grocery products, particularly hard-to-find ones.

The new charge will be added to most deliveries totaling more than $100.
Lawmakers who supported the legislation expect the fee to raise roughly $60 million to fix roads and other transportation infrastructure.
Food including from restaurants medical supplies and baby products are exempt from the new delivery fee.
No more on this subject at https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/retail-delivery-fee-non-compete-ban-deep-fake-penalties-among-state-laws-going-into-effect-monday/
I don't really know what this accomplishes -- deliverers pay gasoline and vehicle taxes [1], so why they (and we) must pay yet more (obviously a charge that is mostly passed on to the consumer), I don't understand. I guess it's a less out-front way to get some extra tax revenues than say raising the gas tax a couple pennies which would drive a lot of people apoplectic.
Both chambers of the state legislature and the governor are all Democratic.
I'm glad to see the exemptions.
The $100 threshhold is perplexing -- I very consciously bundle my Amazon orders to as few deliveries as possible for greenhouse gas and other pollution emissions reasons, meaning I make a few high-dollar orders rather than several small-dollar orders for example. That makes me an a-wipe I guess that should be punished.
I guess they think anyone who orders more than $100 in one order is Richie Rich or something. And that anyone who has things delivered instead of driving out and getting it and driving back home is idle rich and should pay a character-building "get off your lazy butt and go to the store" luxury tax. Instead of thinking it might be someone who might just be sick, disabled, or car-less. Sigh.
[1] Unless they deliver by bike or foot, unheard of where I live, but in core Minneapolis and St. Paul downtowns, I suppose that happens frequently, especially restaurant food orders.

(152,291 posts)You have expressed perfectly just why I bought them!
Old Crank
(4,779 posts)There are some things that don't hit the stores that I want. Or they were in my local stores but not any more.
I also try to buy at the stores when they have a sale and get enough so that I canwait until the next sale to buy them again.
Unfortunately I am now over stocked in Maple syrup. But as a Canadian I now have my own strategic reserve of Maple syrup.
CaliforniaPeggy
(152,291 posts)You made me smile at that thought.
I do the same thing about stuff that I used to be able to buy at my local market but now that it's no longer available, I go to Amazon. They are reliable. And I appreciate that.
