A few more from the Hindu temple in New Jersey

I visited the Swaminarayan Akshardham, a Hindu temple (mandir) in Robbinsville, New Jersey, on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The mandir is the largest in the U.S., the second largest in the world (#1 is Ankgor Wat in Cambodia), and a religious tourist destination for Hindus from around the world. The white structure in the first photo is constructed of 68,000 cubic feet of Italian Carrara marble.

I grew up about 20 minutes south of there. I want to take my kid there before we sell Mom's house. Thank you for all your fun pictures, not just this post.

Photography is forbidden in the temple, the large white building. I was awestruck once inside. The interior walls and ceilings are covered with ornate carvings, all of which have a story. There are also chambers with shrines to various deities, each containing brightly colored statues.

Thanks and you're welcome!

I see on the first post how many people said “Amazing” so I just have to say I am wordless. I had no idea this place exists. I really appreciate your sharing your pictures. So much man-made beauty.. It’s very good to be reminded that people can create such things. Thank you!
