stepped on, pushed against a solid wall, shook off the back of a horse, scraped off the back of a horse, and thrown into a huge coil of barbed wire. Things you get used to when you grow up on a horse ranch. The only one that I blame the horse for was when the stallion did not want to go riding... so he found a low branch of a big tree and intentionally took me "under" the branch and scrapped me out of the saddle. He was so damn happy about it. But I got back up on him and we continued to ride.

The barbed wire was an accident... but that one left scars

As having a cows tail, that has been sitting in manure and urine for hours, slap you in the face when you get her up for milking.

That is a special moment in your day.

It was either while putting on or off the saddle or checking the hind feets but it wasn't only the tail. I miss those days, though.

Have some old shoe polishers with horsehair. From my father who polished three pair every Sunday evening for the week. You can tell a man by his shoes, he would say. His parents worked making shoes for United Shoe, back in the day.

And a horse broke my nose when rearing back after being spooked by a truck. And one bit my shoulder when I was applying medicine to her back. I think it stung her.

But can't really blame them when the B52 bomber horse flies are biting them. I spend a small fortune on fly spray in the summer.

I have had my arm broken in two places, (scraped off in a tree,) shoulder broken (my mare fell on me, not her fault,) several toes from being stepped on. This past March I had my foot fractured when my big Warmblood stomped on it (1,500 lbs worth). But I can't wait to get back in the saddle tomorrow after being off for a couple weeks. Finally got my staples out today from gall bladder surgery.

Yeeha!
