Forget how really funny these show were, and the advertisements??? Theyre arent any to speak of......not like now where the ads start every 10 minutes and last for about 5 minutes. On Newhart or MTMs show, they have a one minute ad that lasts about 3 minutes half way through the show. Insane how advertisements have taken over.

I'll have to look up MTM and Bob Newhart. Always loved those shows. The MTM where Chuckles the Clown dies is beyond hysterical!

(2,033 posts)Bob Newhart is on right now, and I've been watching Murder She Wrote and Hart to Hart late night. I think it's partially letting my mind go back to better times.
Plus there really aren't any better shows IMO than the Mary Tyler Moore show. I wanted to be Mary Richards when I grew up.

(6,448 posts)My grandmother was dying from cancer. There was one hour a week when she laughed steady, but was in severe pain the rest of her days.
I'll never forget the gift Carol Burnett gave Grandma in her final year of life.

(52,258 posts)in the 70s and we counted how many commercials they had in a row since it seemed like so many...4! Now there are twice as much.
I had a VCR that would automatically fast forward through the commercials. When it died I couldn't get another one like it since they stopped making that variety, the salesman told me the advertisers pushed for that feature to be removed on all recording products.
