Lea Thompson backs up Brad Garrett's claim that Ellen DeGeneres treated people 'horribly': 'True story'cwillen@businessinsider.com (Claudia Willen) 45 mins ago 8/1/20
Lea Thompson agreed with Brad Garrett's claim that it was "common knowledge" that Ellen DeGeneres mistreated people. Garrett said on Twitter Friday that the reportedly toxic work environment at "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" "comes from the top."
He added that it's "common knowledge" that the host treated people "horribly."
The "Back to the Future" actress responded to Garrett's comment and wrote, "True story. It is."
Lea Thompson seconded Brad Garrett's claim that it was "common knowledge" that Ellen DeGeneres mistreated people on her show.
Amid negative reports containing accounts from current and former employees describing a toxic work environment on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the talk-show host penned a letter to staffers personally apologizing to anyone who felt they weren't treated with respect and saying she hadn't been able to closely manage the show as it grew in recent years.
On Friday, the "Everybody Love Raymond" actor, who's appeared on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" multiple times, tweeted a link to Variety's article about her letter and called out the talk-show host for her role in the allegations.
"Sorry but it comes from the top @TheEllenShow Know more than one who were treated horribly by her. Common knowledge," he wrote.

(106,356 posts)Are the claims that she (Ellen) did not control what happened on her show, including some who abused or sexually harrassed staff? Or are there claims that Ellen herself was abusive? Why would Brad Garrett be the source/end-all/Know-all about this?
Admittedly, I tune out of most things celebrity-related especially lately, but I keep seeing mentions of this and am clueless...?

Here's an article about it.

Updated: 8/2 Just saw this article. It mentions 2 situations Garrett has interacted with Ellen;
Garretts comments followed Australian radio host Neil Breen recalling a bizarre encounter from 2013 when he was told by Ellen producers not to look at her ahead of an interview.

(25,688 posts)But then I stopped. It bothered me the way she would treat people. There was a sense of bullying sometimes especially with her staff members. It also bothered me that she seemed to delight in peoples mishaps, like in the games. She appeared to get pure enjoyment over people's failures. Even when she had some "star" on as a guest, there was a sense of one upmanship, always challenging them to some contest of who's the best; unless it was a really, really big star like Pres Obama, Cher or Oprah. She even took pokes at Michelle Obama in the supermarket skit. I thought at times it bordered on disrespectful. She has a very competitive nature, which is fine, but as the host of a show don't always try to one up your guests.
I don't know, maybe I'm being too critical, but these revelations don't surprise me.
I do give her a lot of credit for speaking out for the LGBT community, she has done a lot to bring important issues to the forefront. I'm don't doubt that overall she is a good and caring person. But sometimes her persona is just kind of cruel.

Ive long thought she has drunk the celebrity icon Kool-Aid and places herself waaaaay above others. I know, I know, she gives away cash and prizes to deserving people (always from sponsors), but its been feeling like an act for me for sometime. Her show has become one big promotion for her other projects and social media outlets and she wastes no time telling others how she is friends with other celebrities.Just my opinion.
