I had the Hamill wedge cut for at least 15 years, until I had kids and didnt have 20 minutes to spend with a blow dryer every day when they were little boys. Little boys can get into a lot of mischief in 20 minutes.

(5,633 posts)Don't see any ads for traditional medicare. I'm suspicious of anything giving so much revenue to private corporations for a federal service.

(6,498 posts)change my primary care doctor. I got really scared that other doctors may also be changed. I then started the cancellation process mad at myself for even thinking of making a change and then worry about what would happen. I really think there has to be some big money being made with Humana.

(5,633 posts)After much research, we found Advantage can opt not renew your annual contract with them. You then have to scramble to get back on regular Medicare when sick . Much more expensive then.

(4,674 posts)At least, annoying as they are, the Medicare commercials are occurring during the annual enrollment period. The drug ads now run all year long.

(19,765 posts)Is a gold mine for insurance companies. Thats why they push so hard for your business. The real shocker comes on the back end so read the fine print. Thom Hartman had a discussion on Sirus some time ago n I never thought twice about changing.

(4 posts)Those commercials are annoying and borderline dishonest. They give you the impression the Federal Govt. is holding out on you, not telling you all that's available.
My wife and I are on an advantage plan. We're quite comfortable with restrictions on choosing a primary care doctor and staying in network. We're in a small town so it doesn't make much difference. We did discover it was better for us to sign up with a locally based insurance company. I suspect the plans are most appealing to people who don't have a lot of serious health problems. Our prescription coverage is better than we had through our employer's health plan. The advantage plans make more money when you stay healthy, so they have gym memberships and other incentives included. A membership to our local YMCA is a nice perk.
If you're interested, the best place to start is the Medicare website itself to get an idea of regular Medicare, supplemental insurance and advantage plans. It seemed overwhelming at first, but it really wasn't difficult.
