Republican.
He directed the best-known film adapted from the fiction of Harlan Ellison, A Boy And His Dog. Ellison thought the film was okay, but loathed the final line of the movie, put in by Jones himself. I won't go into detail (long story), except to say Ellison was infuriated that the line changed the emotional dynamic of the film, trading a story of an interesting relationship for a cheap punchline.

He apparently went to the powers that be at Warner Brothers and told them they didnt need him; Cheyenne was better off as a single.
