Anyone here from Hawaii ?

I recently watched a ‘Hawaii 5 - 0' TV series marathon on an over-the-air TV channel.
It was the newer version, and not the one from decades ago.

Anyway, on the TV show, when the cops burst into a place, or chase someone down, they yell out “5 - 0 ! 5 - 0 !”
“5 - 0", Google tells me, is slang for ‘cops’.

Do the cops in Hawaii actually go around yelling “5 - 0 … 5 - 0” ?

Here in Albuquerque they yell (from what I’ve seen on local news) “Albuquerque police !”
or “A.P.D. !”.

From 1977 to 1983 there was a TV show called ‘CHiPs’, about the California Highway Patrol.
I lived in California at the time, and never heard the California Highway Patrol called CHiPs’ by anyone or on the news.

They were always called the CHP (without the 'i' in CHiPs) , or referred to as the California Highway Patrol.

I guess “5 - 0 5 - 0” and “CHiPs” are just the creation of Hollywood.

They don’t call themselves 5-0.

On Oahu they call themselves HPD, Honolulu Police Dept. Maui is MPD, etc.

They say “Police” when they have to get in. Ordinarily they just knock on the door or walk in if it’s a business.

Wish I didn’t know. 😳

2. Slightly unrelated: Here in Maricopa County

Sheriff Joe used battering rams and if they busted into the wrong house, they would basically say 'oops' and never pay for the damage.
