I recently watched a Hawaii 5 - 0' TV series marathon on an over-the-air TV channel.
It was the newer version, and not the one from decades ago.
Anyway, on the TV show, when the cops burst into a place, or chase someone down, they yell out 5 - 0 ! 5 - 0 !
5 - 0", Google tells me, is slang for cops.
Do the cops in Hawaii actually go around yelling 5 - 0
5 - 0 ?
Here in Albuquerque they yell (from what Ive seen on local news) Albuquerque police !
or A.P.D. !.
From 1977 to 1983 there was a TV show called CHiPs, about the California Highway Patrol.
I lived in California at the time, and never heard the California Highway Patrol called CHiPs by anyone or on the news.
They were always called the CHP (without the 'i' in CHiPs) , or referred to as the California Highway Patrol.
I guess 5 - 0 5 - 0 and CHiPs are just the creation of Hollywood.

(18,940 posts)They dont call themselves 5-0.
On Oahu they call themselves HPD, Honolulu Police Dept. Maui is MPD, etc.
They say Police when they have to get in. Ordinarily they just knock on the door or walk in if its a business.
Wish I didnt know. 😳

(1,265 posts)Sheriff Joe used battering rams and if they busted into the wrong house, they would basically say 'oops' and never pay for the damage.
