Jamie Russell, BBC Scotland News

For the first time in almost 60 years Star Trek character Scotty is being played by a Scottish actor.

Previously the role has been filled by Canadian actor James Doohan and Englishman Simon Pegg.

Now Scottish actor Martin Quinn is portraying a younger version of the character in the prequel series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

"We are rebranding him," Martin told BBC Scotland news. "He's from Paisley now."

Scotland is a country filled with people who can read and write perfect English but can't speak a word of it but they think they are speaking it. Anyone ever watch that old BBC police series Taggert? I defy anyone to prove to me that he says any understandable English words.

My wife is half Scottish descent so she learned to speak English as a child. I tell her that I had to jump over Hadrian's Wall to find her among the Barbarians (I am Italian descent).

..,.in either 1976 or 77. I was stationed in San Antonio then, with the Air Force nurse corps. One convention was in New Orleans, and one in Houston.

I still have the picture somewhere.

Off topic but related. There are some interviews with Ethan Peck (Gregory's grandson) who portrays Spock in Strange New Worlds. He speaks quite movingly about how seriously he takes this role, and how he thinks it has changed him for the better.

I loved Jimmy Doohan in the role. Simon Pegg not so much. He didn't look right.

in the last episode of season two, which aired on August 10, 2023, in the US. Maybe it's just playing in the UK.
