For the first time in almost 60 years Star Trek character Scotty is being played by a Scottish actor.
Previously the role has been filled by Canadian actor James Doohan and Englishman Simon Pegg.

Wonder Why
(4,589 posts)Scotland is a country filled with people who can read and write perfect English but can't speak a word of it but they think they are speaking it. Anyone ever watch that old BBC police series Taggert? I defy anyone to prove to me that he says any understandable English words.
My wife is half Scottish descent so she learned to speak English as a child. I tell her that I had to jump over Hadrian's Wall to find her among the Barbarians (I am Italian descent).

I still have the picture somewhere.
Off topic but related. There are some interviews with Ethan Peck (Gregory's grandson) who portrays Spock in Strange New Worlds. He speaks quite movingly about how seriously he takes this role, and how he thinks it has changed him for the better.
