Just discovered this series... Richard Burton is absolutely superb in this role!
Wagner is a 1983 television miniseries (10 episodes / 4 remastered-restored parts) on the life of Richard Wagner with Richard Burton in the title role. It was directed by Tony Palmer and written by Charles Wood. [ TEMPUS Collection Remastering - Maximianno Cobra's Selection ]
Other main roles were played by Vanessa Redgrave, John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier, and Ralph Richardson.
The cast also includes the composer William Walton, and his wife Susan Walton, in the roles of the royal couple Frederick Augustus II of Saxony and Maria Anna of Bavaria.

granddaughter, Friedelind as houseguest in the summer of 1969. I wasnt a big fan of opera but my step sister Ella Lee, was a up an coming opera singer in the mid/sixties.
Friedelind was Ellas sponsor and promoter.
I was impressed by the work of Richard Burton. I never knew of this series until your post.

I just read of this last week in a biography of Burton I grabbed on a whim in the Book Corner basement. Cool.

Wagner is one of my favorite composers. (I unfortunately seem to like artists with problematic beliefs; Wagner, H.P. Lovecraft, etc.)
