Poder Latinx seeks to strengthen Latino voting power in Phoenix. Here's how

With just over two months left until the general elections, a national advocacy group is calling on canvassers across key states to register Latinos of all ages to vote. With Arizona's growing Latino population — 33% according to the U.S. census — voter registration efforts have been well underway since the beginning of the campaign trails, with organizations like Chicanos Por La Causa and UnidosUS, leading those efforts.

During a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, Poder Latinx, a national organization dedicated to building the civic and political power of Latinos, immigrants and people of color, fortified its commitment to Arizona's Latino community with the Get Out to Vote campaign, which aims to create an informed, powerful Latino voting bloc.

Nancy Herrera, Arizona state program director at Poder Latinx, said that organization volunteers will head out to Latino communities in Phoenix to provide the resources and information eligible voters need to register to vote.

With a group of diverse canvassers and organizers of different ages behind her, Herrera said Poder Latinx will also inform voters about what issues are at stake “so they can make informed decisions at the ballot boxes and elect officials who reflect, protect and push laws and public policy that reflect our Latino interests.”
