Maricopa County attorney condemns lawmaker's 'wildly inaccurate' election contract claims
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has condemned a state lawmaker for falsely portraying her office's role in proposed changes to a key election services contract and for refusing to step back from his "wildly inaccurate allegations."
Mitchell said the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors reviewed the proposed changes in the county's contract with Runbeck Election Services in a March 11 meeting, and "did not accept those changes." She emphasized her office is only authorized to advise county supervisors on state law, but decisions are up to the board.
Still, her criticism of state Rep. Alexander Kolodin, R-Scottsdale, has sparked a pre-election quarrel over proposed negotiations that fizzled months ago.
Kolodin did not initially return repeated requests for comment about why he is blaming Mitchell for inaction on a proposed agreement with a county vendor that he said would enhance election integrity. He aired his criticism in a radio interview.
