Maricopa County sends mandate to every resident in the county: Wear a mask no matter what city, town or area you live in
"Marcy Flanagan, director of Maricopa County's Department of Public Health, which recommended that the county implement a countywide policy, told the supervisors that more people would die if the county did not take steps to mitigate the spread of the virus.
"The reality of what's at risk is more lives lost of Maricopa County residents," she said. "When everybody is not in this together and protecting our community as a whole, the spread is going to continue."

Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo said the county mandate is not intended for cities that already approved mask requirements; its for unincorporated areas and cities and towns that havent required face masks in public. It was passed to educate people on the importance of face masks and send a message to communities that shot down mask mandates, he said.
They have come out and said theyre not going to have a mandatory policy. Well yeah, you are, Gallardo said. "We wanted to put a standardized policy, a very minimal policy, countywide This is what, at the very minimum, should be happening.

(12,632 posts)Went to three stores, two had mandatory mask signage up and everyone was masked. The third didn't and 90% of the people were masked. The ones that weren't all seemed to be white men in their 20s, with carts full of alcohol.

(15,058 posts)If mandatory masking works there, it should work everywhere.
This country should follow the leads of places like Taiwan and Japan.

(15,058 posts)I had read that Maricopa County is one of the largest conservative counties in the whole country, so I had my doubts.
I've been wanting mandatory masks everywhere in public.

(12,632 posts)Maricopa gave Sinema the Senate seat. There are two Dem reps here now (and a third that represents another chunk of Maricopa) - Tempe, Phoenix and some of the Southwest Valley are solidly blue. Scottsdale, Mesa and the Southeast Valley, and the far Northwest Valley around Sun City is still solid red though.

(6,542 posts)You are correct. Mesa and Gilbert have too many Mormons and they blindly vote Repuke. The 5th CD rep is the odious Andy Biggs. Member of the House Fascist Caucus. Supports treason. The most anti-American, pro Nazi member of congress. Was elected in 18 with 60% of the vote. DISGUSTING.
