GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - The Town of Gilbert will be looking for a new mayor. Gilbert Mayor Jenn Daniels resigned on Tuesday. She told the Town Council of her decision.
"Thank you to those who put their trust me in me to lead. You have been patient and generous, and I will always be grateful for this remarkable experience," Daniels said in a statement.
She didn't give a reason why she stepped down, though she had announced in February that she wasn't running for re-election. Daniels only had five months left on her term. She was appointed interim mayor in July 2016 when former mayor John Lewis resigned and then she was elected in November of 2016.
Daniels' full statement can be read below.
I have loved serving the Town of Gilbert for more than 11 years. I have worked alongside amazing people - staff and council members, regional and school leaders, business owners, volunteers, faith groups and friends and neighbors - all working to make our community a better place to live, work and play.

It's always amused me it's called Town of Gilbert. It's a pretty freaking huge town. 70 sq miles and 250,000 people or so.
Wonder what the skinny is?

(13,199 posts)amused for many years at whats called a city here. But now, I understand that its just the term for the form of organization. If it incorporates, its a city, no matter how tiny. Perhaps Gilbert never incorporated, hence its a
town. But I dont really know.

(3,179 posts)more than that is a city, however, once a town has exceeded the 5,000 population it has to take statutory steps to be declared a city. The designation makes a difference with obtaining funding sources. There are perks to being both. Incorporation is also required.

(4,515 posts)a City can adopt a charter, separate into districts, and have more elected positions.
A town may choose to become a city when its population exceeds 3000, but is not required to do so.

(13,199 posts)just in an unincorporated part of the county. Our only government is the county government. We do have an HOA, but they have very few powers. Incorporation was proposed a couple of decades ago, but it was voted down. Were about 34,000 people in our HOA.
