Oh my gosh, Orval Faubus once ran for President

Orval Faubus, the governor of Arkansas who in 1957 sent in National Guard troops to try to prevent nine black students from attending Little Rock Central High, was actually a candidate for President in 1960, for the States' Rights Party. He received less than 45,000 votes nationwide.

to remember political events

I had no idea he had run for governor and President at the same time, until I saw his name on the list of 1960 presidential candidates. And I had studied Arkansas history in the early '70s, but our textbook ended with Governor Francis Cherry (1955-57)!. The textbook was already 14 or 15 years out of date before it was retired! And I can't remember any of my teachers mentioning it-- even the American Government and American History teachers.
