John Cox brings Monopoly board to S.F. campaign stop to rail against income taxes

San Francisco Chronicle / 8-10-21

Perennial candidate and Republican gubernatorial hopeful John Cox, swung through San Francisco Tuesday on a campaign stop — but without his trained bear.

Cox said he’s all done campaigning with the 1,000-pound Kodiak brown bear who joined him on his campaign kickoff in May. On Tuesday, he was playing a different game entirely.

“Voters need to be reminded of who I am,” said Cox, who dropped by a Union Square hotel to stand in the middle of a giant Monopoly board to do a little reminding.

The squares on the giant board — which he proudly acknowledged was another “campaign gimmick’’ — were decorated to show what he said were Newsom’s failings. There was a “high-speed rail to nowhere” square and an “income tax” square and a “vehicle license tax” square.

And this "highest income tax rate in the nation" they keep hammering on is for people with a taxable income above one million dollars a year. I'm retired with a mid five figure income and pay no California income tax at all.

And he's bitching about the cigarette tax? That's laughable. That will appeal to about 5% of the voters. And most of that tax was also voted on, as was much of the gasoline tax.
