Howdy all!
First I needed a vacation. There are 2 things I travel for and that's art and music. So I wanted to go to LA to see the Keith Haring exhibit. Then I saw that Elvis Costello was having a concert at the Greek Theater on June 16th (with Nick Lowe and Charlie Sexton) and I said HELL YEAH!
So, I will be flying into LA with my bestie Marie on Monday June 12 and flying back to TX on Saturday, June 17th.
So plans so far are the Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Laurie Lipton exhibits (that one is in Torrance), the Getty museum, the arboretum in Fullerton to meet up with Marie's aunt, the concert Friday night, and the rest is OPEN!
We are staying right in the beach in San Pedro, so anything between LA and Long Beach is fair game. We might even take a day trip to the San Diego zoo.
Any recommendations of things to do, places to eat that don't cost an arm and a leg (we like mom & pop restaurants over chains), you name it as long as it's not too physical - we're 66!
And if anyone would like to meet for coffee or a meal, that would be great 😃

(23,271 posts)I am an old movie buff. The Academy Award museum was awesome and there is also a Hollywood museum with all kinds of movie history and memorabilia that is interesting.

I hope you realize how far away from one another these two places are!
Have a great time and I hope you have a chance to visit San Francisco while you are nearby!
Have FUN.

(16,290 posts)I know most people gravitate towards the art museum at the top of the hill, but the Villa has superb collections of ancient art.
I found the busts of Roman figures to be quite captivating; seeing the faces and hairstyles of people from those times made me feel a close connection with them. There are some astoundingly delicate jewelry and metalwork pieces that demonstrate the high degree of artistic and sophisticated skills that were practiced over two thousand years ago. And there's some "interesting" Greek pottery on display that would set tongues wagging if they were included in a road show in Topeka or Fort Worth.
