Harris' lucrative SF homecoming a sign of city's enthusiasm
ttendees of Vice President Kamala Harris pricey fundraiser at the Fairmont Hotel over the weekend say the gathering demonstrated the unprecedented enthusiasm San Franciscans have for seeing one of their own pursue the highest office in the land.
Harris on Sunday hosted a campaign event in The City for the first time since the Bay Area native and former San Francisco district attorney became the Democratic presidential nominee following President Joe Bidens decision to drop out of the race last month.
The event raised more than $13 million for the presidential campaign of Harris and her newly-tapped running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, according to a campaign spokesperson.
The haul was nearly nine times the $1.5 million that organizers said Harris raised at her first presidential fundraiser in Massachusetts late last month. It represented a little more than a third of what the campaign said it raised in the 24 hours after Walz was announced last week as running alongside Harris, and about four times as much as a November 2023 Biden-Harris fundraiser in San Francisco raised.
