East Shasta County voters decide if they'll fund firefighters, EMTs, on 2024 ballot

Eastern Shasta County voters will decide in the Nov. 5 general election if they will support a new property tax to fund emergency services in the Burney Fire District, or risk the community having to close some services.

If it passes, Measure F would approve approximately $237,994 per year in property taxes to hire firefighters and emergency medical technicians to serve people living in the district, according to the measure, which was signed and supported unanimously by the district’s board of directors.

Supporters said approval of the measure could mean the difference between the district continuing ambulance services or not, supporters said.

But a new tax could be as hard a sell in November as it was in 2022, when Burney voters turned down a similar measure that was on the ballot.
