Willie Brown, other former S.F. mayors accuse Mark Farrell of breaking the law
Three former San Francisco mayors along with other former local elected officials issued a remarkable rebuke of mayoral candidate Mark Farrell, accusing him of breaking the law in how he is managing his campaign finances and calling for an investigation.
Art Agnos, Frank Jordan and Willie Brown signed a letter calling on Attorney General Rob Bonta and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins to investigate Farrell, saying he appears to be willfully violating city and state election laws.
Specifically, they accused Farrells campaign of using hundreds of thousands of dollars donated to a committee he created to support a measure to reform City Hall to pay for expenses that were actually incurred by his mayoral campaign.
The letter echoes past accusations against Farrells campaign and marks perhaps the most serious criticism his campaign has come under, and comes as about a month is left in the race. Brown and the other former mayors who signed the letter support other candidates in the upcoming election, in which candidates are increasingly attacking each other with a month left in the race. Brown supports Mayor London Breed, Jordan is backing nonprofit founder and Levi Strauss heir Daniel Lurie, and Agnos is behind Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin.
