Joel Engardio targeted for potential recall over Prop K support
An early advocate of the recall of progressive District Attorney Chesa Boudin is now targeting Supervisor Joel Engardio, who faces a backlash over his support of a controversial proposition to close the Great Highway to car traffic.
Richie Greenberg, who started a Boudin recall that failed to collect enough signatures before a separate effort succeeded and was passed by voters, is looking for volunteers for his new political action committee Recall Army to help disaffected Sunset residents oust Engardio. While San Franciscans overall supported turning the Great Highway into a park, a majority of Engardios constituents in District 4 opposed the measure, as did voters in other outlying neighborhoods of the city.
Greenberg said in the call for volunteers that Engardio is unequivocally the most politically vulnerable elected official today, adding that voters in his district are understandably livid that he was the public face of what he called an ultimately divisive ballot measure.
Engardio has elevated himself to become the subject of yet another recall effort in San Francisco, Greenberg said. Mr. Engardio has betrayed the residents, business owners and community groups of District 4.
