I'm seriously thinking of moving to the Denver area in hope of getting a better work-life balance than here in NYC. If you have any words of wisdom to share or would just like to chat about living in the Denver area, please contact me.

1. I don't live there now but did for 10 yrs. Moved away in the 90's. All I will say about Colorado is

You Will Love It. Good idea to reach out to DU pals, its a good starting point.
Definitely get to know the city of Denver & the ski slopes..and when summer comes absolutely take a drive across the State. There is endless history & great small towns, good people, celebrations and beautiful lakes, streams, & summer festivals throughout the Rocky Mountains to just experience.
I wish you good luck, easy travel, and many new & true friends.
Whether you're stay is forever or just for awhile, Colorado is definitely worth your time.
Hope you find a few Colorado DUers to help you start this very cool journey.

Don't think you can find a better environment for its beauty and its people. Getting more expensive and crowded all the time but you will be welcome and I hope you will find it as good a place as I have.

5. i don't spend much time in denver

but we has seriously beautiful country out here and i usually don't have much to complain about when it comes to the whether along the front range.

6. I was on my way from Chicago to California when I stopped to ask directions in Colorado

in 1977. Been here ever since! I did eventually visit California a couple of times, but I love Colorado.
I always tell people to pick where you " WANT" to live...then you figure out how to make it work.

12. What a great story

I am at the point where I am trying to figure out how to make the move work.
Things to line up: a job; a car (I live in NYC and don't have one); a place to live.
I also have to tie up loose strings here.

13. If possible, wait till you get to Colorado to buy a car. They don't use salt on the roads, so there

is never as much rust on used vehicles. They use sand instead. And maybe the most important thing to keep in mind is that the weather here in Colorado is incredibly mild. Yes we do get dumped on occasionally, but it is usually followed by weather in the 50's and it melts fast. The front range (from Denver south on I-25 to the New Mexico border) is in what is called the "rain shadow. The big snows usually fall over the mountains and we get amazingly mild weather in those areas. The only time we get clobbered is when the snow comes up from the Gulf of Mexico. So, that is the exception more than the rule.

I have to get three geriatric cats to Denver with me. That's why I was thinking of buying a car. Maybe I should just rent one from a major agency that would allow me to do a one-way trip. Or maybe I'll get lucky and a friend with a car will want to take a car trip with me. That would be nice!

16. Unfortunately, that's not quite true

They use a mixture of sand and salt. When I moved to Denver in 1971, it was almost all sand. Over the years, the amount of salt has been increased. I still don't see rusted cars here, the way I used to in the Midwest, but that will be coming as the salt content increases.

I live in Boulder county & the thing I love the most is that I'm 15 minutes away from some of the most amazing trails! And with just a little more driving, I can be in Rocky Mt. National Park. If you like the outdoors, you will love it here. And if you don't like the weather, stay five minutes, cuz it will change.
