(9,033 posts)Was born and raised in Boulder (Restless Native ), lived elsewhere for a long time (in the northern intermountain West), went back for about 5 years in '05--zOMG.
Had to leave again before the whole state dried up, burned down and blew away--too painful. Now I live where it rains....

(24,146 posts)and this summer has been (relatively) mild, but i understand how painful it is. the high park fire three years ago destroyed me.

(9,033 posts)We had planned a road trip camping, fishing and just generally hangin' out in the high country...starting with the Poudre River. So that didn't happen--spent a few days in South Park, where overnight temps were 65 degrees in June and the snow pack was 2% of normal; checked out the Conejo, where the fly fishing was outrageously good because there was no runoff to speak of and very low, clear water; then in northern NM the aspen trees were bare--dead or dropped their leaves already, in JUNE!...haven't been back since. As I said, too painful--where we live now is totally different. It is also changing, but I don't notice as much because it is new to me.

(31,446 posts)There are some people who like humidity. There are some who love long winters. And natural amenities? That is also subjective.
Remember, too, some people have little choice about where they live. They learn to make the best of their situations, and find beauty wherever they are.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)and i know there is beauty anywhere you go, but i count myself very lucky to live here.

(27,279 posts)I don't see myself anywhere else either, but I think the altitude will take it's toll. I'll have to move lower.
