Colorado Springs facility helps deaf, blind students cast their first ballots

Moments after he stepped away from a voting machine, 19-year-old Nicholas Schwegman signed words with his hands that garnered laughter from all around.

"I'm a star!" he said through an interpreter.

Schwegman didn't expect this kind of attention when he walked inside The Independence Center in Colorado Springs on Monday morning. But there he was, surrounded by news cameras and reporters waiting to hear what it was like to vote for the first time in his life.

"I wasn't quite sure what to do next, but I'm through it," he said. "And now, we wait and see."
