Denver Public Schools will not have in-person classes to start the fall semester because of coronavirus
Colorados largest school district on Friday evening announced that it will not have in-person classes at the start of the new school year, becoming what appears to be the first district in the state to go that route amid the coronavirus crisis.
Denver Public Schools Superintendent Susana Cordova made the announcement during a virtual news conference. The decision will affect the districts approximately 93,000 students.
The decision is a sharp turn from the districts previous plans.
In June, Cordova said DPS likely would start the 2020-21 school year with full in-person learning at all of its 207 schools, with an online option still available to families not comfortable sending their kids back to classrooms.
