(41,232 posts)In our little town. The thievery is garbage selfishness. We get books, we give books, we return books. Damn. It ain’t that hard to give and take. It ain’t that hard at all to be a good citizen.

(64,798 posts)The entire sale was in the little basement of the building, tons of romance novels, John Grisham, Tom Clancy, etc. The proceeds are used to buy coffee and snacks for the weekly AA meetings and similar functions.
One year there was an influx of assholes picking up every book in the place, scanning its bar code, and either placing it in their basket or tossing it onto a table. It seemed predatory and parasitic.
When I brought this up in a certain casual discussion section of a larger online forum, I was attacked from all side by people rallying in defense of these noble entrepreneurs.
So go ahead, wise resellers! Get three bucks for that copy of A Time To Kill and pat yourself on the back for making $2.50 on your shrewd purchase.

something like 700 ebooks.
I once counted and around 500 are cookbooks.
Sitting right here, in the very spot from which I am typing, I almost got clocked when a bookcase mounted to the wall collapsed. Books are very, very heavy and I think the insurance payout, even after a substantial deductible, was something like $2000. That covered the cost of a relatively new computer, printers, scanners, loss of the bookcase, and probably a few things I have forgotten.
And that's all I'm saying to add to your point, however, I will add this, which is not germane to my point:
I still go to the library. I mean, WTF! I can't stop going. We have a new library and a lot of the time I am thinking about being there. I'm addicted.

(47,717 posts)My husband had about 1000 music CDs. When he died, I gave them to the church to sell to make money. Then I put paperback books on the shelves.

Oh. That's right. They're not here to inform us of anything.
Maybe she’s a hoarder. Maybe she’s broke. I think the library host offered desperation as one possibility. It was a brief and tense conversation in which taker was on the offense. Maybe they’ll find out later if she comes back again.

She sends them to Nigeria. We don't say anything to her about it. Should we be pissed?
I did criticize my stepdaughter who set it up and fills it. Why don't you just walk them across the street and save "T" the trouble of carrying them home?
