Potentially explosive scrapped fracking pipes spur state, city warningsWatch out for explosive fracking pipes on the side of the highway, at rest areas or other places where scrap fracking waste isnt supposed to be.
Thats the message the Colorado Department of Transportation sent out to its employees, followed by warnings issued by the city of Loveland, Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue and other local governments.
It has come to our attention that recycling businesses and landfills in Colorado are turning away customers who are trying to recycle and dispose of fracking pipe, said a memo sent by the Loveland Fire Department to city employees.
Fracking pipe is commonly used in Colorado oil/gas wells and contains explosive charges to perforate the tubing in the wells, the memo said. Sometimes these explosive charges do not detonate and are still live within the pipe; therefore fracking pipe is considered to be extremely dangerous and should not be handled by any city employees.

(27,281 posts)1. So what's the big deal? Fracking water is safe to drink,
according to our dear Gov. Frackenlooper, so how could the pipes be dangerous?
We have the best solutions possible right in front of us: sun and wind!

(535 posts)2. Legislation ought to be passed banning from frackers dumping pipes and requiring
all pipes to bear a laser-cut serial number. That way, we can track down offenders.
And these frackers should be fined $100,000 for each pipe dumped.

Too much government regulation!
And we're working so hard to fix the economy!
Besides, it's just a LITTLE bomb lying on the side of the road.
