UConn Takes Control To Beat Stanford And Set Up Perfect Matchup (Women's Basketball)

NASHVILLE — While Notre Dame and UConn rolled to the Final Four over the past two weekends, Stanford's perspective shifted.

Stanford kids are smart. They knew a national championship game between the Huskies and Irish was widely anticipated. It would not only be a rematch of former Big East rivals but the first title game between unbeatens in the history of the sport.

The Cardinal slowly went from simple consumer of news to a team that didn't want to be consumed to make it.

"If we're going to be someone's hors d'oeuvres, we're not going to get swallowed easily," Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer said.

Notre Dame is my alma mater.

ND did better thank I expected against MD. Kayla MacBride let the game come to her this time; whereas, in the regional final, she tried to force too many plays hoping to get a foul on her defender but she instead got called for charging. Tonight, she did a much better job of slicing through MD's seams and avoiding the charge. Also, the Irish owned the boards, when MD's height advantage should have given it to MD.

I do expect the Huskies to attack ND's middle. We'll see how the Irish respond.

I like Kevin Ollie better than I did Jim Calhoun.
And I appreciate Geno proving to misogynists around the world that women can play first rate basketball.
