Little poll taken on Modern, Pepe's, and Sally's: best clam pizza...
Modern won by a landslide in our tailgate poll! Next was Sally's. No Pepe's folks.

(32,975 posts)When I was in the area in the late 60s and early 70s, it was a constant debate between Sally's and Pepe's.....not familiar with Modern.

(65,012 posts)good pizza. But we have Dayton St. pizza in Westville and it's really good, too, so we don't go downtown...

(65,012 posts)I used to but switched to Dayton St. when their pizza got so damn good and was so close it wasn't even a contest. We used to get pizzas delivered a couple times a month...

(15,099 posts)for sure. Would you overnight me one? please! A day old mangled pizza is better than the slop they try to pass off as pizza here. Seriously Dominoes has won best pizza several times.

(15,099 posts)except to party. I grew up in Ct. I still have not eaten at Louis Lunch. I still check out what bands are playing at Toads, Palace and the Oakdale when I go up for a visit. The 1st place I eat when I go is Modern. Hit up pepe's at the casino. Ted's the 1st chance I get. Always Rick's on 5 and Dad's for breakfast at least once. If I drive, Foxon Birch beer and one pie pumpkin comes home with me.
I can list the bars that have closed since I moved away. LOL

(65,012 posts)It was my husband's Friday night hang out for years but it burned to the ground a year ago last August. There is another bar owned by the same owner but it is not the same, according to my husband (I'm not into bar scenes).

When I go up there I mainly go to Grand Central off rt 5 in Wallingford. Laid back place, down to earth people. IOW a dive. If you hit perogie night, OMG.
I used to go to the Red Dog in Middletown a lot.

(65,012 posts)there are parts of CT I know I'd best not look into...
I breeze past lots of towns on my way to Boston, going up 84 off the Wilbur Cross...
Delaney's was the pride of Westville. Been there forever. An electrical problem took it out. I couldn't believe the devastation when I drove down to Westville Village to take a look. Nothing but a crispy remnant...the NHFD just let it burn itself out...we mourned for months...
The owner has a new place that is nice and very different, but it still has the same, loyal crowd. Everyone grieved and got better...

(15,099 posts)that I consider CT my hometown. Living in central CT is ideal. You can be almost anywhere in 2 hours or less.
It sucks when a favorite spot burns down. The new and improved is never the same. Like a new pair of shoes, gotta break them in to be comfortable.
