Yale student teachers march, hunger strikers sit outside School of Management in New Haven
NEW HAVEN >> About 100 Yale graduate students and supporters marched outside the Yale School of Management building this afternoon in a continued effort to pressure the university administration to negotiate with a newly formed student teachers union.
Enduring steady rain, the protesters chanted while marching in loops on the city sidewalk as a group of Local 33 Unite Here members on day 11 of a hunger strike sat silently in folding chairs under umbrellas.
The protesters chose the location because of their assertion that Yale is employing delaying tactics in starting negotiations until President Donald Trump appoints more management-friendly members to the National Labor Relations Board.
Trumps secretary of commerce, Wilbur Ross, is a Yale alumnus and donated $10 million to support the construction of the management schools campus. The library in the Whitney Avenue building bears his name.
