Lawmakers get $27 million break on budget

Lawmakers caught a $27 million break Monday in their ongoing struggle to balance state government's budget.

The Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council, a panel of state officials and economists, approved a slightly more optimistic forecast for how much money the state will have to spend in the next fiscal year, which starts on June 30.

Forecasts for revenue from unclaimed property and corporate income taxes grew.

Even with the positive news, the General Assembly still has to find more than $355 million in tax increases or spending cuts.
