JUST heard one of the most accurate things I've ever seen/heard about it, from the narrator: 'Alcoholism makes you a liar, to your self.'

1. I watched it last night....

....and I learned quite a bit about Hemingway that helped me understand him a little bit better.

I watched a video of Orson Welles talking about his relationship with him, and I thought he was very kind and empathic when talking about Hemingway’s suicide.

2. I only saw the first half

Seemed to be a classic narcissist. I was sort of repelled. Maybe the second half would redeem him.

4. I watched all the episodes on PBS Video.

I have loved the work of Hemingway since college and he has long been my favorite author. A Movable Feast is one of the most beautifully written books l have ever read.

Hemingway was a self-destructive alcoholic and he, like most alcoholics cause deep hurt to the people who love them most. I think he had an awareness of the pain he caused people, which only caused more self-loathing and made him drink more. And yes, I agree that the person they lie the most to is themselves.

The man had an enormous gift and that is what needs to be honored. His disastrous personal life is what made him a fragile and flawed human being, like so many others who struggle from one day to the next.

6. The Old Man and the Sea,

much loved work; glad he received so much recognition for this powerful story.

The 18 year old Italian girl he was in love with who finally visited him. What happened to her? Maybe it's best he didn't have a daughter.

A talented and very complex man, Ernest's wife and sons deserve awards.
