Is everyone else getting spammed by the sports betting ads to "help education," too?

I'm old enough that I remember the original ads for the Florida Lottery and how with the revenue from that education in Florida would be fully funded with no taxes needed. These new ads sound like a rehash of that tired, old, failed argument. If the Florida Lottery provided the level of money to education that had been promised, why would we need another gambling scam to "win" for Florida education now?

I'm not familiar with the gambling laws but right now I don't think it is legal except possibly at the Seminole tribe owned casinos and horse race betting at tracks - if there still are any horse racing tracks (the greyhound tracks are now all closed down). At least sports betting didn't used to be legal in Florida.

I remember the shell game of the lottery too but we're probably going to need gambling to pay for pulling out of federal OSHA and creating a "new, improved Floriduh" OSHA..

I think (but have no facts) that some sports betting may be allowed at the Seminole casinos. So if more general sports betting is allowed, they would lose revenue.

But yeah, DeSantis is really trying to trash Florida. Now they've introduced a bill to abolish the city of Key West because they are defying his anti-mandate on cruise ship regulations. They're trying to turn Florida into one of those shit holes TFG talked about.

the legislature, in the name of jobs, jobs, jobs, wants to form its' own Occupational Safety and Health board. Kinda like the unemployment board and the workers compensation board and we know how citizen friendly they are.

One of the legislators said it was in the vein of cutting regs so business can get a head start on other states.

I'm glad I'm outa the workforce, these people want to compete with Mississippi and Arkansas..

I saw that about Key West, they haven't forced it through as yet but give Monroe County a few for tries.

And worry about how ducking OSHA regulations will work for the people of Florida.

Same as you, I'm glad I am out of the workforce (though I mostly worked for myself for most of my life), but not following the established safety regulations is dangerous for everyone, not just working people.

We're fucked. Too many states are controlled by Republicans which means the voting districts are or will be gerrymandered to favor Republican candidates. We're fucked.

That's what made sports betting legal at the casinos - but it's still illegal anywhere else. These ads are pushing to make it legal all over the state - I wonder how hard the Seminoles will fight it?

What bother me about these sport betting ads is that they are using the same arguments that were used to set up the lottery system - that it will provide more money for education. Of course, that was not true. The money goes into the state coffers and sent where the legislature wants - which seems to be to private schools and other boondoggles.
