The results also show strong support among Republican voters for more red flag laws, universal background checks, and mandatory waiting periods for all firearms.
Our results on gun reform were pretty universal across the board in support of the legislation that was just passed and in support of even more extensive gun reforms in the future And that applied to both Democrats and Republicans, said Bethany Bowra, a researcher with Florida International University.
On abortion rights, voter responses were more nuanced. 31% approve of the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, while 57% disapprove and 12% have no opinion.

Unfortunately, according to the poll, only one-third of Floridians support a new law guaranteeing abortion rights. And DeSantis out-polls Biden on jobs and economy, 50% to 34%.

OK, there is one bad thing about FL law - parental notification - but you can get around that.

(9,635 posts)Our wonderful elected officials seem to disagree with that interpretation of the state constitution so their abortion law still stands... for now.
The state Supreme Court originally blocked the parental notification also, but was overturned by a ballot initiative.

When Roe was overturned, the current 15 week ban was still being litigated in the trial court.
The Court currently has 3 DeSantis appointees. The state is trying to fast track the 15 week ban because they seems to really think the Florida Supreme Court will side with them. From all the filings and briefs Ive read, the state doesnt even seem to be trying that hard to win at the trial and appellate level. That would be not only a major misread of the Court, but it would be pure incompetence, if the Court recently struck down a 6 week ban post-Dobbs. They seem to think those 3 DeSantis appointees will make all the difference.

(24,185 posts)I did find a letter from a local physician dated 7/17 about how thankful she was for the right of abortion here due to state constitutions' absolute right of a woman's privacy with her medical doctor.
I think it was an Executive Order that Death Sentence signed and was overturned?
