A couple of devil's advocate questions about a campaign text message I just got from Charlie Crist.

[my name], it's Democrat Charlie Crist. I know a lot of campaigns are reaching out, but my race is the most consequential election this cycle.

Is it really the most consequential, or is it more important for Val Demings to beat Marco Rubio for the U.S. Senate? Of course they're both important but Charlie Crist justifies his plea for a lion's share of available Democratic voter's money with this argument:

We need to stop Ron DeSantis before he runs for President because that's what his real goal is: Become President and bring his anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion policies to the federal level.

I'm asking you to make a choice, [my name]:

- You can do nothing, let Ron DeSantis's mega-donors buy him this seat, and set him up to bring his extremist agenda to the White House.

- Or we can rally together, do what's right for Florida, and stop DeSantis before he can hurt any more Americans.

[requests a donation]

Is it a given that losing his position as governor would stop Ron DeSantis from running for president? Or is that an unwarranted assumption?

3. Losing would definitely damage DeSantis' chances in 2024. And his fascist 'experiment' in Florida

needs to be repudiated by voters - no rights for women, institutionalized homophobia, book banning, demonization of good education and teachers, wasting tax dollars attacking businesses that employ lots of Floridians because they oppose DeSantis’ dangerous policies.

Rubio's votes, when he shows up, are predictably reThuglican, but DeathSatan is turning an entire state into his fiefdom. With reThuglican state house and senate, he's got almost total control over the lives of hundreds of thousands. And the damage he's done to FL education...let him try to run for POTUS. His personality may appeal to Proud Boys, but he won't be the only reThug in the primary.

5. He can still run, but it's a tough sell for a candidate who can't win in his own State.

Especially if it is a key State like Florida.

7. It wouldn't stop him but it definitely deflates the enthusiasm around him

Given the make-up of the electorate as we've seen in the last couple of elections, it seems like Republicans increasingly need Florida to win the Presidency in the future.

It makes him a more difficult choice. If he couldn't win re-election here in Florida, what use is he as a nominee? Would he be able to win Florida in 2024 or 2028? All of that gets thrown into question.
