Related: About this forumAnyone live in Sarasota, Lido Key?
Assume already evacuated?
We have time share there and pool cam hasn't shown any people for days. But so curious to see all the chairs left out.
Hoping all people stay safe. There is water everywhere you look on Suncoast!

(14,627 posts)the furniture. I'm up the road in the Clearwater area and
we "battend down the hatches" at the pool.
I like Florida (not the politics) but I really hate these swerly blowy things. Been thru too many misses and it looks like we are gonna get hit on the nose with this one.
The old adage, "Run from the water, hide from the wind" works for me!
I have friends in Sarasota/Vamo aera and they are real close to the shore.. not good. They are expecting some water intrusion and water damage.

(42,770 posts)Expect Venice as landfall. But now east coast in danger too ( where people went) yikes. Turn the car around ! Lol
Just heard DeSantis tell everyone not to drive north. He's still a major a-hole but he does seem to have a couple genes FG doesn't have.
How close are you to the shore?
mitch96
(14,627 posts)is that I'm 60 feet above see level.. When I lived in So Fla I was 6 miles from the shore but only 9 feet above sea level.
I have a friend who is living in a "trailer" oops I mean "manufactured housing" complex in Venice. It's Huge and she has a creek/bayou/big stream in her back yard.
She is 87 and sharp as a tack. Lucky her daughter lives up this way in Clearwater so she is coming up here.
11am NHC update says Sarasota and south are gonna get it. I'll wait for tomorrows update as it gets closer. The weather gods are a fickle bunch and it might take a jog north or south.
But it's a comin'

(42,770 posts)Not to. Lol. Well glad for that for sure! I think there's lots of those old fashioned trailer parks down there. The cool ones you see in old movies porches and flowers and plants.
Glad you're 60' above sea level now!!

Weve learned over the years:
Its much better to be on the North side of the storm.
Put all the loose stuff somewhere.
Leave early.
When the power is out, its almost impossible to stay more than a day.

(28,263 posts)I loved to travel there in January, February. My boss lived in Sarasota and he'd have his team down for a week, every winter.

(42,770 posts)direction did you evacuate to from Clearwater?
Sancho
(9,100 posts)...we originally had a reservation in Orlando, but decided to head North to Georgia. Left the boat and house as best we could, but the people and pets are safe.
