In 2022, Florida Democrats were a sacrificial lamb.

Putting two things together:

A couple days ago, Chair Manny Diaz sent around an email thanking the candidates and volunteers for their efforts in this cycle. He characterized the results as disappointing but noted that in the 2018 midterms, DNC groups invested $60 million in the state and in 2022 that investment was slashed to $2 million.

This morning, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison was on air with Jonathan Capehart and bragged about the national ground game they financed this cycle. He said they went from a $30 million investment in 2018 to $90 million this year. That's Florida's missing $60 million and it's hard to argue with the outcome.

1. We saw little

advertising for Democracy candidates here this cycle. One mailer, two weeks after mail in voting was started and no rallies here in SW Fl. No candidates came after the storm at all. Very poor communication to voters.

5. Charlie Crist, near nonexistent

I felt like the candidates were not visible at all. I remember thinking, especially around the time we got hit with Hurricane Ian, that I'm not seeing anything from Democrats - nothing.

2. FL & TX Are Money Pits

The funds were better spent elsewhere. I'm sorry, but the idea that they are purple states that we have a chance to flip, is ridiculous.

Let them be, and use the money that would have been spent there, to shore up states like AZ, NV, NC or GA.

3. Florida's Democratic Party problems are much deeper than

dollars spent on elections. You can’t wait until the election to start a ground game. It takes time to get a team of volunteers together and working smoothly. Sadly, once the election is over no one keeps the team together. That’s not how you win elections, obviously.

It was the candidates. Even if they had $200 million, it was the candidates.

7. A perfect candidate, running as a Democrat, would also have lost.

Success has a thousand fathers, failure has a thousand scapegoats. Florida Democrats have many obstacles to overcome before any Democrat will be competitive in a statewide race.
